From today, you can find us in London at 64 Neal Street, Seven Dials, Covent Garden – a vibrant location that perfectly matches our handcrafted items with a strong story.
When Dutch sailors set sail in the 1600s, they braved the open seas, chasing the unknown. Their courage carried them forward, but their beliefs carried them home. Yet the ocean was ruthless with its storms, shipwrecks, and the endless horizon. Sailors knew they needed more than just skill. They needed luck. So, they inked their protection onto their skin. Tattoos of Pigs and hens became their symbols of survival.
Why a Pig and a Hen?
After shipwrecks, the crates carrying pigs and hens were often the only ones that stayed afloat, washing ashore with their passengers inside. Sailors believed these animals were destined to survive. And with their tattoos, they would too.
From Tattoos to Iconic Designs
Centuries later, Pig & Hen brings this tradition to life from the heart of Amsterdam, transforming the sailors’ symbol of luck into meaningful jewelry. Built with the same resilience, woven with the same strength, and carrying the same fortune. Today, Pig & Hen keeps this legacy alive by creating iconic jewelry that carries the spirit of adventure, luck, and craftsmanship.
Origins
The roots of Pig & Hen lie in a shared connection to the sea, style and craftsmanship. When sailor Dominic Bakker tied a simple piece of sail rope around his wrist, an idea was born. His friend Rutger Versluis recognised its potential, and a year later, Pig & Hen became official.
Founded in Amsterdam
Founded in Amsterdam in 2013, Pig & Hen began as a small concept centered around handcrafted rope bracelets. Thomas van der Kallen and Stefan Textor soon joined as co-owners. Since then, Pig & Hen has grown into a successful, internationally recognized jewelry brand.
Craftmanship
In the heart of Amsterdam, a story of craftsmanship and attention to detail unfolds with every Pig & Hen creation. Skilled artisans, each with their own unique touch, weave the soul of the city into every handcrafted piece.
